Fruit and Veg Rack – Powered by Bashew’s

You’d be hard pressed to find a brand more quintessentially Cape Town than Bashew’s Soft Drinks.

Started in 1899 by the brothers Marx and Harry Bashews, generations of  Capetonians will have memories of bakkies loaded to the brim with the wooden crates filled with colourful cooldrinks in glass bottles.

Via their network of distributors, Bashew’s get delivered to your door.  Chances are you’ll also find them in your little shop on the corner.

I for one remember years back when I was living in the Herlderberg area, a friend’s mom used to stock up on Bashew’s once a week, and we’d all be sure to check in at their place on delivery days so you’d be guaranteed your favourite flavour :)

A couple of weeks back I was overjoyed to find Bashew’s on Twitter of all places! They seem to be engaging their client base on the various Social Networks  ( @BashewsSA on twitter and here on Facebook) and I see they also have a vibrant new website.  It is great to see an “old” company like this take on the new technology so successfully.

So since I started my weight-loss journey a while ago my intake of fruit and vegetables have increased dramatically (ahem, easy to do that from zero yes), so I found myself in a situation where I didn’t have anywhere to put the friggen things.  I was planning on building a veg rack of sorts, and when I found Bashew’s on Twitter I knew that I wanted to use their wooden crates to build it, automatically adding years of character!

I made contact with them and the awesome people at Bashew’s donated a couple of crates to my worthy cause :P  A couple of quick screws here and there and this is what I ended up with!  Ladies and gents I give you the Bashew’s powered Fruit and Veg rack!
