I recently attended a media launch of the new range from KitchenAid, at their HQ in Milnerton.
I entered the hallowed halls and my attention was immediately drawn to the old stand mixers that they have on display, dating back to the 1940’s. This company really has stood the test of time, and if their new products are anything to go by, they are also still innovating for the future. Amazingly, nearly all the attachments sold with those ancient mixers are still compatible with the newest machines today!
I don’t know of any self respecting foodie that do not secretly or openly have a crush on one, more or all of their appliances. To make matters worse, they just keep getting sexier and sexier. This year is no exception.
The new products / updated models in the range feature a number of innovative features that caught my eye, here are some of the highlights.
KitchenAid Artisan Cordless Hand Blender
Did you get that bit? It’s friggen cordless!
Look, I love my current stick blender, but I must admit I’ve run into issues a number of times where the electricity point is not close enough to the stove that I am working on. This meant that I had to move the steaming pot of liquid to another spot in the kitchen where I can plug the blender in.
This is of course not such a big deal, but in my mind part of the appeal of a stick blender is that it is small, quick and easy to use. Having it cordless just kicked things up a notch, and I’m sure we’ll see many more domestic models from competitors with this feature soon enough.
KitchenAid Artisan 4 Litre Food Processor
This is an all singing, all dancing dream machine. Featuring the revolutionary Exactslice system, the user can change the thickness of the slices from 1mm to 6mm, WITHOUT removing the blade or turning the machine off. That’s right, an external lever on the base of the machine is used for adjustments. No more need for messy blade adjustments when you realise those carrots should actually be sliced a tad thinner.
It also has a dicing kit that magically creates cubes of vegetables, fruit or cheese. I still have no clue how it actually does this, but I saw it with my own to eyes, I kid you not.
KitchenAid Artisan Toaster
Apart from it’s stunning good looks, this baby also has an innovative trick or two up it’s sleeve.
An automatic sensor detects when your toast is getting cold, and gently lowers and lifts it to keep it warm until you are ready to remove and eat the toast. No more cold toast in the mornings, how rad is that?
KitchenAid Artisan Kettle
A kettle is a kettle right? WRONG. This baby features a temperature control lever on the base, that allows you to heat up the water to anything between 50° and 100°. This feature will be specially useful to moms, as well as coffee and tea snobs connoisseurs.
The kettle also has a built in temperature gauge, so you can see the temperature of the water inside, in the blink of an eye.
I think that KitchenAid has really outdone themselves this year, bringing technology previously only available in high end commercial equipment, right to the domestic kitchen in a VERY attractive form factor.
These machines aren’t cheap I know, but as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. I’m certain these new models will be a big hit among their clientele.
